WORLD LATIN DANCE CUP QUALIFIERS

In April 2018, The Sydney Latin Festival and the Sydney International Bachata Festival were appointed by Edwin Rivera & Eider Rua (Directors of the World Latin Dance Cup WLDC) as the official competition events for Australian to qualify to compete at the WLDC in December 2018.

What is the World Latin Dance Cup?

The World Latin Dance Cup is the largest and most prestigious latin dance competition with over 35 countries represented.

The competition focus is on Latin Dances including styles of Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Tango in over 70 divisions.

 

Australia has always had a strong representation at the World Latin Dance Cup and we are proud to enable the Aussies the opportunity to pit themselves against the World's Best Dancers!

Dates:  December 10th - 16th, 2018
Venue:  Hotel Wyndham, Orlando Resort, USA

How will this change the format of the Sydney Latin Festival?
The Sydney Latin Festival has always had a focus on amazing parties, workshops and shows.  We will integrate the WLDC Qualifiers into our existing "friendly" competitions to ensure minimum disruption to our existing format.

Australia's Best Latin Crew

  • Held on Saturday 30th June at the Riverside Theatre

  • Our rules for Australia's Best Latin Crew will stay the same

  • The only difference is that crews have to nominate in their Online Registration form whether
    (a) They wish to be enter the Qualifiers and
    (b) Whether they are Professional Teams or Amateur Teams

  • Our judges will judge Australia's Best Latin Crew as per usual to award Best Choreography,     Most "Sabor",  Most Creative, Best Costume. However, for those teams who have nominated to Qualify for the WLDC, they will also select teams to represent Australia in both the Professional and Amateur division

Australia's Best Latin Dancers (formerly known as Australia's Best Latin Couple)

  • We have renamed Australia's Best Latin Couple, to Australia's Best Latin Dancers, so that we can open up the competition to Duos and Solos

  • We have also opened up more divisions so that there is Professional, Pro-Am, and Amateurs

  • Most of the competitions will run during the evening and lunch time parties

  • In keeping with last year, a $50 competitor fee will apply

  • Finalists from the Professional Division will perform on stage at the Riverside Theatre on Saturday 30th June.

What Divisions will be run by the Sydney Latin Festival vs The Sydney International Bachata Festival?\

The Sydney International Bachata Festival (26th - 29th April) will run the Australian Qualifiers for Bachata and Kizomba, with the exception of the Bachata Pro/Am Couples.

 

The Sydney Latin Festival (29th June - 1st July) will run the Australian Qualifiers for Salsa, Cha Cha Cha and Samba.

For this year only, we will also be running the Qualifiers for the Bachata Pro/Am Couples.
